Fried Green Tomatoes at the Wistle Stop Cafe

My favorite book is "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Wistle Stop Cafe", its written by Fannie Flagg. It tells the tale of two women during the 1920's at a local diner. It relays many events in history, the Ku Klux Klan, a brief hint of lesbianism, spousal abuse, death of loved ones, and a murder trial.

A housewife in the 1980's develops a friend who recounts her life and the lives of her friends during the 1920's. She tells the tale of her brothers death and how that forever affected her life. Allowing her to make a best friend whom she later loses to cancer. But together they open the Wistle Stop Cafe in southern Alabama. Together the two face racism, murder, and fried green tomatoes-a lesson in cooking.

This book was turned into a movie in 1991 and named "Fried Green Tomatoes". Some famous people, Jessica Tandy, Mary Louise Parker, and Kathy Bates played leading roles in the movie.

Great book to rediscover southern life and its simplicity. To learn about the struggles of southern women during the 1920's and how friendships are the basis for life, a happy life.

So put on your favorite pair of EyeBobs and get comfortable with some southern simplicity. Fried Green Tomatoes at the Wistle Stop Cafe is a must read.
