The Seedkeepers of Crescentville by Jeanne Sable
The title of my favorite book is called The Seedkeepers of Crescentville written by my friend, Jeanne Sable. It is about a small town in Vermont that is giving in to genetically altered seeds that produce bigger and tastier vegetables, but you can not reuse the seeds from the bearing vegetables. They are sterile. So therefore, you have to buy new seeds every planting season. (This is happening now.)
There are a host of wonderful characters, such as Gram, around 90 years old, Fran and her precocious daughter, Tiana. This is hardly a boring book, rich with characters and it makes you feel like you're right in that town. Tiana is a young girl that captures the heart of everyone around her. I recommend this book to everyone who shares in interest in keeping nature as simple as it was meant to be, and not putting the big bucks into the likes of Monsanto.
The Seedkeepers of Crescentville may not be suitable for young children as it does contain some adult themes. So grab those reading glasses and get ready for a fun and memorable story based around a group of caring characters who are fighting to keep things simple.
