The Lone Survivor by Marcus Lutrell
I have a lot of favorite books so it's hard to narrow it down. My favorite kind of depends on the mood I'm in at the time. Most recently I would have to say that the book that held my interest the most (in other words, I read it from cover to cover because I couldn't put it down) was called The Lone Survivor by Marcus Lutrell.
It is the true story of a team of Navy SEALs who all died in Afghanistan with the exception of Marcus Lutrell. Marcus talks about his life prior to becoming a SEAL and how he trained with a former SEAL. He goes on to share what the training was like once he got into the navy and actually began SEAL training.
It gave me a whole new respect for these special forces teams and what they do for our us and the symbol of the American Flag. Marcus gave a little background on each of the men on his SEAL team. Then he told his story of what happened in Afghanistan. The way these men risked (and gave) their lives doing their job and also trying to save one another. One of the men continued to fire his weapon even after he faced serious life threatening injury. Once all the other men were gone, Marcus was protected by villagers who also risked their lives to keep him safe. The book is a must read.
