Les Miserables by Victor Hugo
Les Miserables by Victor Hugo
It’s difficult to say exactly what I love about Victor Hugo’s epic novel, Les Miserables. The story is expansive and engrossing, containing within in it love, mystery, action, history, drama, and so much more. I encourage you to put on your favorite reading glasses, get very comfortable.
No book has ever moved me so much. The message of bad things happening to good people speaks to me and rings true today. Hugo’s description is so vivid you are pulled into the story and made to truly feel the mood of a setting or the emotions of the characters.
I also love how throughout the story triumph is tied in with tragedy and melancholy, which is so much more realistic than in your average fairytale novel.
On top of all this, the love narrative between Marius and Cosette didn’t make me sick like most sappy love stories do- it was not only bearable but beautiful and enthralling.
Overall, Les Miserables is well worth reading the thousands of pages.
