I Opted for Lasik

I started wearing eyeglasses when I was twelve years old.  I noticed I was nearsighted because I could no longer hit a baseball or see the chalkboard at school.

I could not stand wearing glasses for the longest time so I just carried them in a case and put them on when I needed to see far away.  As a result my glasses were always bent and never fit right. It was like a had a pair of folding reading glasses, only they weren't meant to fold. I abused them too much.

Finally I just resigned myself to wearing glasses so I left them on.  I worked a very physical job in a warehouse so I sweated a lot.  My glasses were always dirty which people always gave me a hard time about.  Fortunately, my prescription never changed for years after my first pair of glasses so I was a great candidate for Lasik surgery.  Two and a half years ago I had Lasik surgery.  It was very traumatic, but when I got off the table after the surgery the doctor handed me my glasses on my way out and said "here's a souvenir".  I have had 20/15 vision ever since.

I understand that I will need to wear reading glasses again in the future, but the trade off is worth it to me. Readers only have to go on occasionally and maybe by that time there will be other options for me. As of right now, I am very happy.
