How They Adjust My Eyeglasses

One thing I've noticed about my eyeglasses is no matter how perfect they fit when I leave the store, they always become lopsided in time. While they are under warranty it is frustrating, but I can bring them in and get them adjusted fairly easily.

But when they go out… Well, my glasses right now fall off almost every time I bend over and they just flat out don't feel right. I suppose some people might just go out and get another pair, but my finances are tight (and my eyecare insurance isn't that great) so now I'm stuck with them until they break when they fall off (which they probably will eventually).

I really wish that there was some simple way to adjust them. Its not the screws, its the frame itself — the store does something with some sort of sand looking substance. Its beautiful - they fit perfectly afterwards.

I wonder if I could pay them to do it after my warranty runs out? I should have asked last time I went. I'm just worried they'll try to sell me another pair of glasses… I've never been good at resisting sales pitches.

- Thank you for submitting your eyeglass story to Vibrant Views. That "beautiful sand" they put your glasses in is actually a heating pan. That sand is very very hot and heats up your glasses to a point they can be re-shapened to match the contours of your face.

(this only works on plastic frames, such as the co conspirator or other similar frames. Metal frames are adjusted at room temperature, otherwise they get way too hot.)

I wouldn't suggest trying it on your own because it is very easy to break them, not to mention how difficult it can be to adjust eyeglasses without proper training and practice. For some good wearing tips on how to handle your glasses so they don't get so bent out of shape, we have put together an article on how to properly care for your glasses. Maybe you will pick up a couple tips there that will keep your glasses a little more comfortable.

And most opticians will continue to adjust glasses for you at no charge, or sometimes a nominal fee. (after all it does take time and expertise).
